Adobe has announced that a new version of its Photoshop Touch software is now available for iPhone, iPod touch and Android smart phones.

Adobe has announced that a new version of its Photoshop Touch software is now available for iPhone, iPod touch and Android smart phones.

Inspired by the version for tablet devices, the Photoshop Touch phone app incorporates some of the core features of Photoshop desktop photo editing software, such as layers, selection tools, filters and tonal and colour adjustments.

Users can also apply effects and add graphical text with the new Photoshop Touch phone app, and edit images as large as 12 megapixels with layers.

Other features include a Scribble Selection tool, which lets users combine images and a version of the Refine Edge tool.

The Photoshop Touch phone app will also automatically sync images to Adobe Creative Cloud with 2GB of free storage space.
Adobe’s Photoshop Touch for phone is available now in the Apple App Store and Google Play, priced £2.99.

For iOS devices, the app requires iOS 5, iPhone 4S and iPod touch 5th generation; Android phones must run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or later.

Below is a short video from Adobe showing the Photoshop Touch app in action.

Facebook have now introduced filters to its non-smartphone app ‘Facebook for Every Phone’; one Sepia and one Grayscale. You might think that this had something to do with Facebook acquiring Instagram for the not-to-be-sniffed at sum of $1 billion – but you’d be wrong. The apps were developed by way of a Facebook employee hackathon, which might seem odd in light of recent events.

While Facebook initially stated that their intention with the new filters had been to draw users away from Instagram, their motive is now to acquire users who don’t have Instagram on their phones by giving them the option of using Facebook’s filter facility instead.

Photo sharing site 500px finally comes to Android. The app is geared toward beautiful image display and looks as slick as the site. The built in slideshow is a particularly nice feature and turns your device into a digital frame.

The news gets better as the app is free for tablets and smartphones running Android 2.2 and above. Users of the app can browse 500px’s massive photo library, which includes EXIF information and location data.

Since the new iPad features retina display, 500px has reacted by including a new retina display optimized user interface and support for in-app photo purchases on its iPad app.

It’s great to see photography sites and apps taking advantage of the opportunities brought forward by the ever-improving technology in mobile devices.

What are your thoughts on the app? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
