Photoshop before the age of Photoshop
There has been much debate in the media recently over the use of Photoshop to manipulate pictures of models in fashion and women’s magazines. The general perception is that this is a fairly new phenomenon. In fact editing images of women for commercial use and mass media is certainly nothing new, as the below pictures from the 1940s and 1950s demonstrate. The ‘before and after’ image features the original photograph and the final artist’s interpretation, which as you can see is notably different from the original!
