Showcase: Jan Oliehoek | Practical Photoshop

Check out the surreal work of Dutch digital artist Jan Oliehoek. Did Jan’s photo in this month’s issue of Practical Photoshop stop you in your tracks? It’s not every day you see a hippo combined with a frog, but that’s exactly the kind of surreal magic Jan Oliehoek likes to produce.

Creating all of his work from stock imagery, Jan blends together ordinary photos in Photoshop to create something that would look more at home in a Lewis Carroll story. As if the frog and the hippo combo wasn’t enough, you might also notice that the exotic creature has the ears of a cat.

And if you loved Jan’s image in the magazine, you’ll be pleased to know that you can view more of his stunning work on his online gallery, where you’ll not only come across crazy animal concoctions (our favourite has to be the Zebra Frog) but all manner of mysterious dream houses, painful looking finger explosions, smoking lightbulbs and more.

Jan’s images just goes to show that you can have fun with other photographer’s work, but always remember to get permission and give credits where necessary, as Jan does on his website.

To see a full version of Jan’s Hippo Frog picture, pick up a copy of Practical Photoshop Issue 4, out now.
